Two Policemen Killed as Kidnappers Abduct Chinese National in Kwara

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two police officers and the abduction of two individuals—a Chinese national and a Nigerian—following an armed attack on a mining site in Oreke-Okeigbo, Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, when a group of unidentified gunmen stormed the mining site. The attackers fatally shot Assistant Superintendent of Police Haruna Watsai and Inspector Tukur Ogah, both attached to the 45 Police Mobile Force, Abuja. The assailants also seized the officers’ rifles.

In a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi on behalf of Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo, the command described the attack as “heinous” and pledged to relentlessly pursue the perpetrators.

The statement further revealed that the attackers abducted Mr. Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese national, and Mr. David Adenaiye, a Nigerian from Kogi State, who were both working at the mining site during the attack.

Commissioner Ojo condemned the brutal act and assured the public that tactical, intelligence-driven operations are underway to rescue the abductees and apprehend those responsible. He emphasized that the police are collaborating with other security agencies and local stakeholders to strengthen security and prevent further incidents.

“The command remains fully committed to protecting lives and property across the state,” the spokesperson said. “We urge residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to provide credible, timely information to aid the ongoing investigation and rescue efforts.”
