A 61-year-old doctor in North Carolina, United States, has been arrested after allegedly shooting at a moving Jeep during a road rage incident, injuring two sisters, aged 12 and 20.
According to Virginia State Police, Dr. Richard Thomas Arriviello was driving a Mercedes-Benz on Interstate 77 at about 8:50 a.m. on August 22 when he allegedly fired at the Jeep, striking both sisters in the legs.
The victims were airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Police said Arriviello allegedly fled the scene but was later stopped and arrested about 15 miles away.
He faces several felony charges, including maliciously shooting into an occupied vehicle, maliciously causing bodily injury with intent to maim, and using a firearm while committing a felony.
Arriviello remains in jail without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 29.
Authorities have not disclosed what led to the alleged road rage confrontation or confirmed whether a firearm was recovered from his vehicle.
The driver of the Jeep was also cited for reckless driving.
