The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, could be set to return to acting following reports that she has been offered a role in an upcoming UK-based production.
Meghan is best known for her role in the popular US legal drama Suits, where she played lawyer Rachel Zane for seven seasons before her engagement to Prince Harry.
After her final episode aired in 2018, Meghan stepped away from acting as she joined the British royal family. The 45-year-old has not taken on a regular scripted television role since then.
According to entertainment reports, Meghan has been offered a role in a “top-secret” UK project, with the opportunity reportedly playing a significant part in the couple’s decision to relocate to Britain with their children.
Sources close to the duchess have not denied the reports, while further details about the production are expected to emerge soon.
In addition to the reported UK project, Meghan is set to make a cameo appearance as herself alongside Lily Collins and Brie Larson in the upcoming US feature film Close Personal Friends.
Before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan appeared in several television series, including CSI: Miami and Fringe. She also featured in films such as Get Him to the Greek, Remember Me and Horrible Bosses.
Speaking about her decision to step away from acting during her 2017 engagement interview, Meghan said the transition represented a new chapter in her life.
“I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change. It’s a new chapter.”
Although Meghan and Harry have not formally disclosed all the reasons behind their reported relocation, the duchess is expected to continue overseeing her lifestyle brand, As Ever, from her new UK base.
If the reports are confirmed, the project would mark a major return to scripted acting for Meghan since she stepped away from the profession nearly a decade ago.
