“Peter Obi Explains Why He Is Suing Kenneth Okonkwo”

Peter Obi Says He Will Quit 2027 Race if Kenneth Okonkwo Proves He Is Unfit

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said he is prepared to withdraw from the 2027 presidential election if actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo presents credible evidence showing that he is not fit to hold public office.

Obi made the statement during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo while addressing the defamation lawsuit he recently filed against Okonkwo.

According to Obi, the legal action is not an attempt to silence his former spokesperson but rather to challenge him to back up the allegations he has repeatedly made.

The former Anambra State governor said Okonkwo has often claimed to possess damaging information about him from the period they worked together. Obi insisted that if such information truly exists, it should be made public so Nigerians can judge for themselves.

“I want Kenneth Okonkwo to bring out everything he claims to know about me. If what he reveals proves that I am not qualified to lead Nigeria, I will stop contesting the election,” Obi said.

Responding to criticism that the lawsuit is meant to suppress free speech, Obi maintained that its purpose is simply to compel Okonkwo to present the evidence he has publicly claimed to possess.

Obi stressed that anyone seeking public office should be open to scrutiny, adding that Nigerians deserve to know the true character and integrity of those asking for their votes.

Kenneth Okonkwo, who previously served as Obi’s spokesperson, was recently appointed as the spokesperson for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The defamation case follows a series of public remarks in which Okonkwo claimed to have undisclosed information about Obi.
