“The Brazil We Used to Know Is Completely Gone” — Sunday Oliseh Blasts Brazil After Shock Norway Defeat

Former Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh has delivered a scathing assessment of Brazil following the five-time world champions’ dramatic exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, declaring that the team’s historic identity has disappeared.

Oliseh’s comments came after Brazil suffered a stunning 2-1 defeat to Norway in the quarterfinals at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday night. The historic victory sent the Scandinavian nation into the World Cup semifinals for the first time, thanks to a brilliant display inspired by star striker Erling Haaland.

Brazil endured a frustrating evening from the outset. Bruno Guimarães missed an early penalty, while Gabriel Martinelli and Vinícius Júnior were repeatedly denied by an outstanding performance from Norwegian goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland before halftime.

Norway gradually seized control of the contest in the second half and finally broke the deadlock in the 79th minute when Haaland powered home a header. The Manchester City striker sealed the famous victory in the closing moments with a thunderous long-range strike, making Brazil’s late consolation goal little more than a footnote.

Reacting to the result on social media, Oliseh criticized Brazil’s tactical organisation and questioned the team’s mentality, insisting the current squad lacks the creativity, confidence and intimidation that once defined the Seleção.

“Erling Haaland’s second goal tells you everything you need to know. Look at the tactical shape, look at the body language. The Brazil we used to know is completely gone. This Brazil side is sadly playing ordinary football. Bravo, Norway. This World Cup continues to amaze!” Oliseh wrote.

Brazil’s unexpected elimination is one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, while Norway’s disciplined performances and clinical finishing have established them as genuine contenders for the 2026 FIFA World Cup title.
