A Ghanaian woman reportedly collapsed and was rushed to the hospital after discovering that her husband had secretly married a second wife without informing her.
A Facebook user, Fati Aboni, shared the incident in a post on Friday, June 26, 2026, claiming it occurred in Ashaiman.
According to Aboni, the woman and her husband spent the day together at home last week, unaware that his marriage ceremony to a second wife was taking place elsewhere.
While acknowledging that polygamy is widely practised in some communities, Aboni urged men who intend to take another wife to inform their first wives beforehand or, at the very least, notify respected family members who can break the news gently.
She also advised Muslim women to be mindful that polygamy is permitted in Islam and to prepare themselves for the possibility.
“First wife is at the hospital on admission and second wife is home enjoying her new marriage. My dear brothers, uncles and fathers, I will plead with you on this issue,” she wrote.
“Polygamy has become part of us, and it has come to stay. Most women have accepted the fact that it exists.
“But we beg you, if you plan to marry a second wife, inform your first wife either a week before the ceremony or, if you cannot tell her yourself, inform family elders or people she respects so they can find a suitable way to break the news to her.
“Don’t complete the marriage and allow your first wife to hear about it through rumours before you confirm it.
“This happened in Ashaiman. The second wife’s marriage took place last week. During the ceremony, the man spent the entire day at home with his first wife as though everything was normal, yet he never informed her.
“At least he could have used that opportunity to let his wife know he was bringing in a second wife.
“He kept quiet about the issue, and today the wife found out, became unconscious, and had to be rushed to the hospital.
“Anyway, congratulations to the new wife, and speedy recovery to the first wife.
“My fellow Muslim ladies, keep in mind that Muslim men are polygamous, and no matter how happy you are in your marriage, another wife may join you.
“With that mindset, you may not feel as much pain if it happens.
“As our brother Alhaji Zaaki Sobolo said, one woman can never satisfy a man… unless he is a sick man.”
