The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that abducted pupils and teachers in Orire Local Government Area have been released.
According to the police, intensive efforts by security agencies are still ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of those responsible for the attack.
The Command also debunked rumours circulating on social media that the victims had been rescued.
“The Command hereby debunks the rumour currently circulating that the victims have been rescued. Members of the public are urged to remain calm, support the ongoing efforts of the joint security team, and verify every piece of information before sharing it.
The spread of fake news and misinformation only creates unnecessary panic, heightens tension, and diverts limited security resources that are critically needed for ongoing operations,” the spokesperson of the Command, DSP Olayinka, said.
Last Friday, May 15, armed men stormed parts of Orire Local Government Area, attacked two schools, and abducted students and teachers.
