A vulcaniser identified as Onyema Okonkwo has been arrested in connection with the murder of Chinwendu Achumba.
Chinwendu, a student of the College of Nursing, Umuadara Umulogho, was found murdered in her off-campus lodge in Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, on Thursday, May 21.
Her throat was reportedly slit so severely that she was almost decapitated.
A suspect arrested in connection with the killing allegedly confessed that he and another man gained access to her home, took turns raping her, and later killed her.
According to reports, the vulcaniser had previously tried to woo the victim, but she rejected his advances. During the attack, Chinwendu reportedly scratched him while struggling to fight off the assailants. Realising that she had recognised him, he allegedly killed her and fled with her phone.
