Gunmen on Wednesday night attacked communities in Plateau State, killing two persons and injuring two others, including a woman who was shot in Heipang community, opposite Plateau State Polytechnic.
Our correspondent gathered that the attack occurred in Ban community, Heipang, at about 11 p.m., when the assailants stormed the area and opened sporadic fire on residents. Three people were hit by bullets and rushed to the hospital for treatment.
One of the victims, a woman, later died from her injuries, while the two others are currently receiving medical care.
The incident sparked panic among students of Plateau State Polytechnic, particularly those living off-campus.
A student of the institution, Nanchip Dube, said the sound of gunfire threw the campus community into confusion.
“The sounds of gunshots created panic among students,” Dube said.
In a related incident earlier in Riyom Local Government Area, a 27-year-old resident, Amos Monday, was killed when gunmen ambushed a group of youths. The attack occurred at about 8:15 p.m. between Baten village in Wereng Ward and Du’a village in Kwi Ward.
