Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has stepped down from his position in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

News of his resignation was confirmed on Monday by former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter).

According to reports, Tuggar submitted his resignation letter earlier in the day, and it is expected to be formally presented at the next Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The move is believed to be connected to his political ambition, as he is reportedly preparing to contest the Bauchi State governorship election in 2027.

Ahmad wrote:
“The Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, will bid farewell to the Federal Executive Council today as he steps down from his position to pursue the governorship of Bauchi State.”

As of the time of this report, Tuggar himself has not released any official statement regarding his resignation.

His exit comes just hours before the deadline set by President Bola Tinubu, which requires all appointees planning to run for elective offices in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before March 31, 2026.
