Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has honoured Staff Sergeant Amoke Gunshot Simeon, the soldier who led the operation that ended the reign of the notorious Abia-born kidnap kingpin, Obioma Nwankwo, popularly known as ‘Osisikankwu’, in Aba in 2010.

‘Osisikankwu’ headed a dangerous kidnapping gang that terrorised Aba and its surrounding areas between 2008 and 2010. Staff Sergeant Amoke, a member of the Nigerian Army, played a pivotal role in tracking and apprehending the gang leader, helping to restore security to the state.

During a visit to Amoke at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Council, Governor Otti pledged to sponsor the soldier for overseas medical treatment to ensure his recovery and full return to health.

Speaking to journalists after the visit, Amoke recounted his ordeal following a motor accident in the North East while still on active duty, which left him with serious leg injuries. He expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for the support and the promise of treatment abroad.

“It was actually an accident while on duty in the North East, and the initial treatment did not help. I am so happy and excited that Governor Otti remembers those who fought for Abia State. His support will motivate other military personnel to serve diligently,” he said.

Amoke also shared insights about his assignment in Abia, explaining that his team was tasked with tracking kidnappers and criminals to restore peace. He recalled that ‘Osisikankwu’ once offered him N50 million to let him continue his criminal activities—a bribe he firmly rejected.

“I was on general patrol across Abia State, covering areas from Ngwa High School to Asa, Onicha Ngwa, and Ikot Ekpene. I refused the bribe, and that brought joy to the people of Abia State,” he said.

He added that his honesty and commitment to duty earned him respect and recognition. “A good job pays. Today, I am proud and grateful to Governor Otti for remembering me and supporting me,” Amoke said.

Governor Otti’s gesture underscores the state government’s appreciation for security personnel who have contributed to maintaining peace and safety in Abia.
