A Magistrates’ Court in Abuja has ordered businessman Musa Ibrahim to sweep the premises of Amir Mosque in Wuse II for one month after stealing electrical cables.
Magistrate Lami Sani handed down the sentence after Ibrahim pleaded guilty to charges of mischief and theft.
Prior to sentencing on Tuesday, Ibrahim pleaded for leniency, promising never to commit such an offence again.
The prosecution, represented by A.A. Adeleju, told the court that Ibrahim had trespassed into the mosque on March 5 under the pretense of collecting Ramadan food. While others queued for the meal, he allegedly used the back door to remove the mosque’s electric cables.
Adeleju added that Ibrahim confessed to the crime during police investigations. The cables, valued at N2 million, were recovered from him.
