Nigerian singer Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, popularly known as Joeboy, has expressed his support for early marriage, revealing that he would prefer to marry young and raise a family away from the public eye.
The 29-year-old singer made this known during an interview on the Cocktails & Takeaways podcast hosted by British media personality Madame Joyce.
Joeboy said his views on early marriage were influenced by comments made by Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson, who recently expressed regret over not getting married earlier despite his public image as a playboy.
“I saw an interview of Timini,” Joeboy said during the show. “He’s like the ideal playboy; almost all the girls claim to love him, and he was like, he wished he got married early. I was like, if you’re a playboy and you can say this, that means marrying early might actually be nice.”
The singer, however, stressed that marriage should not be based solely on age, noting that finding the right partner and having genuine love for each other are more important.
“Marrying early to someone who you genuinely love is going to be cute,” Joeboy added. “Being 40 and having a 16-year-old kid is cute. But marriage is not really about whenever it feels cool. If it just feels right to you and you love the person, do it.”
Speaking about his own plans, Joeboy revealed that he intends to keep his marriage and family life private, suggesting that the public may only discover that he is married after he has already started a family.
“Personally, I would rather get married early,” he said. “But if I get married right now, nobody is going to know. Maybe when I have like three kids, people will now find out that Joeboy has a whole family somewhere.”
