Music executive Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, has challenged the common belief that wisdom naturally comes with age.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Clarity Zone podcast, the 50-year-old said the assumption that older people are inherently wiser is not always true.

“The assumption that the older you get, the wiser you are is an assumption that has never been true. I am not saying older people are not smart or wise,” he explained.

Cabasa noted that many people often confuse experience with competence.

“Most times, people see themselves as wiser because they are more experienced, not necessarily competent. But a lot of the experiences you bring may already be obsolete,” he added.

He emphasized that personal growth, not just aging, is what truly leads to wisdom.

“If you are growing as a person, there is a tendency that as you get older, you will become wiser. But that isn’t the case if you are not growing and are just aging,” Cabasa said.

He also highlighted the generational gap, pointing out that today’s younger generation has grown up differently.

“We are dealing with a generation that came with computer OS, whereas we had to learn how to use computers. So, we need to be careful not to demand respect solely on the basis of age.”
