Reality TV star Tope Adenibuyan, popularly known as Teddy A, has opened up about the emotional impact of false domestic abuse allegations made against him.
Speaking during a recent appearance on the WithChude podcast, the former Big Brother Naija housemate recalled how a viral report once accused him of physically abusing his wife, actress Bamike “Bambam” Olawunmi.
According to Teddy A, the claim spread rapidly across social media and alleged that he beat his wife even while she was pregnant.
He said the report came as a complete shock.
“When they said I was beating my wife, it was a lot,” he said. “I woke up, went downstairs, and my wife was there watching a movie. She was pregnant and laughing.”
Teddy A explained that he only realised something was wrong when his phone began lighting up with notifications.
“I checked my phone and saw my notifications going off. I thought, I didn’t post anything that’s trending, what’s going on? What did I do, or what are they saying now?” he recalled.
As he went through the comments, he said Bambam became visibly emotional and repeatedly asked who could have fabricated such a damaging story.
“I honestly didn’t know,” he added. “Maybe it was one ex somewhere or village people trying to come after me.”
The reality star revealed that he was initially advised to ignore the allegations and allow the controversy to die down on its own.
However, he said remaining silent later proved costly, as the false claims continue to resurface online and shape public perception of him.
“I didn’t realise the damage staying silent would do to my reputation,” he said. “Even now, when my wife and I post together, people still comment and ask if I’m sure I don’t beat my wife.”
Reflecting on the experience, Teddy A said the allegations deeply affected him because they caused people to view him in a way that was completely untrue.
“Why would they say that? Why would anyone do that?” he asked. “It affected me because it made people see me as something I’m not.”
