Akpabio Drops All Defamation Cases, Including Senator Natasha’s, Following Priest’s Sermon

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has instructed his lawyers to withdraw all defamation lawsuits he previously filed against various individuals.

The decision came after he attended a New Year Mass at the Sacred Heart Parish in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Thursday, January 1. Speaking to congregants after the service, Akpabio said he had filed nearly nine lawsuits against people he accused of defaming or slandering him, but the priest’s sermon moved him to forgive and retract all legal actions.

“I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, lied about me, and slandered my name. But I listened to the priest and suddenly realised he was talking to me, so I hereby direct my solicitor to withdraw all lawsuits against them,” Akpabio said.

In 2025, Akpabio filed several high-profile defamation cases, including one against fellow Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who had accused him of sexual harassment. He had instituted a N200 billion lawsuit against her after denying the allegation and demanding that she prove her claims in court.

The withdrawal marks a significant turn in Akpabio’s legal battles and highlights the impact of his New Year reflection.
