The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, CP Ajao Adewale, has confirmed that Arise TV reporter Sommie Maduagwu jumped from her third-floor apartment during a robbery at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja on Monday, September 29.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, CP Adewale explained the events surrounding the incident:
“Armed robbers broke into Unique Apartments, a twin three-storey building with 18 flats, located in Katampe under the Mabuchi divisional area. Two security guards were on duty, and one who tried to confront the robbers was shot.”
“In the chaos and panic, Sommie, who lived on the top floor, jumped from the third floor out of fear. Unfortunately, she suffered serious injuries.”
A distress call was immediately made to the police command. Officers rushed to the scene and found Sommie unconscious on the ground. She was taken to Maitama General Hospital, where medical staff attempted resuscitation using CPR, but she could not be saved.
CP Adewale stated that an investigation team has been set up to track down the attackers and bring them to justice.
