A 93-year-old man has been charged with murder after allegedly fatally stabbing his wife during an argument inside their car in Pekin, Illinois.
James Pate reportedly got into a fight with his 80-year-old wife, Cheryl Pate, on September 2. During the dispute, he allegedly pulled a knife from the car and stabbed her. He later told police he “couldn’t take it anymore” and that they were planning to divorce.
Cheryl was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Authorities have charged James Pate with first-degree murder and are seeking to deny him pretrial release.
