Nollywood actor , Yul Edochie, has joined the growing chorus of voices advocating for Nigeria’s next president to emerge from the South East region. In a recent statement, Edochie emphasized that equity, justice, and national unity demand that the presidency be rotated to the South East in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
According to yul , the South East predominantly occupied by the Igbo ethnic group has long been marginalized in Nigeria’s political power structure, particularly at the federal level. Despite being one of the country’s major geopolitical zones, the region has yet to produce a president in Nigeria’s current democratic dispensation, which began in 1999.
“It is only fair and just that the South East is given a chance to lead,” Edochie stated. “Every region has had its turn. If we truly want unity and fairness, then it’s time to support a South Easterner for the presidency.”
Yul Edochie, who ran a short-lived presidential campaign in 2022, has often used his platform to speak on national issues. His latest remarks come as Nigeria begins to gear up for the next election cycle, with zoning and power rotation once again taking center stage in political discourse.
His statement has sparked fresh conversations online about national inclusivity, regional balance, and the need for all Nigerians to feel represented at the highest level of leadership.
