The Nigeria Police Force has dismantled two major human trafficking syndicates in separate operations across Enugu, Anambra, and Ondo States. A total of 11 suspects were arrested, and several victims — including children, pregnant women, and foreign nationals — were rescued.
Baby Factory Uncovered in Enugu and Anambra
According to police spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, operatives of the Zone-13 Command carried out a sting operation targeting a child trafficking and baby factory network. Eight suspects were arrested, including Uzoamaka Ani (27), Joy Madu (52), and Victoria Onodu Akasike (56).
The suspects confessed to crimes such as child theft, illegal adoption, and operating unlicensed medical centers as baby factories. Victims rescued include a seven-month-old baby, a four-year-old child, and two pregnant women from Ebonyi State who were held captive to sell their babies after birth.
Ghanaian Trafficking Victims Rescued in Ondo
In a separate operation, Ondo State Police rescued David Angerinya, a Ghanaian national trafficked into Nigeria under false promises. The action followed a petition from Interpol.
Three suspects — Hayford Nyamekye, Awine Alex, and Kojo Felix — were arrested. Investigations uncovered 39 other Ghanaian victims, many of whom lacked valid travel documents and were living in poor conditions.
Police Call for Public Support
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, praised the officers involved and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to fighting human trafficking and protecting vulnerable people.
The public is urged to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
