A 38-year-old Nigerian man, identified as Seriki, was arrested in Cape Town, South Africa, after police discovered a substantial amount of cash and multiple bank cards in his possession.

The arrest was made on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, by officers from the Provincial Operational Command Centre in Parklands, Cape Town.

According to Captain Frederick van Wyk, the provincial police spokesperson, the officers acted on intelligence related to drug dealing and conducted a search at a residence on Holly Crescent, Table View. “During the search, a significant amount of foreign and South African currency exceeding R1 million (approximately N88 million) was found. In addition to the cash, a bag containing bank cards belonging to various individuals was also recovered,” van Wyk stated.

The occupants of the residence were unable to provide a valid explanation for possessing the items. Consequently, Seriki was arrested on suspicion of possession of suspected stolen property and conspiracy to commit cybercrime. He is scheduled to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, May 15.

Captain van Wyk added, “Detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Commercial Unit will continue the investigation and additional charges may be filed as the case progresses.”
