As violence continues to unsettle parts of Benue State, Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has appealed to the Federal Government for direct and coordinated support—rejecting calls for a state of emergency.

Speaking on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, April 23, Governor Alia emphasized that his administration is capable of restoring peace but requires additional federal backing in terms of logistics, intelligence, and manpower.

“Our situation has improved with the help of two armored tanks provided by the federal government,” he said. “But to fully dislodge the armed invaders—killer herders who speak foreign languages and have no business on our land—we need more emergency assistance. Let them return to where they came from so our farmers can safely go back to their ancestral homes.”

Dispelling claims that the crisis is spiraling out of control, Alia noted the significant progress already made. “We’ve reduced the number of affected local government areas from seventeen to six. That shows we’re making headway. We don’t need symbolic gestures—we need real help. That’s the truth.”

He concluded by urging the Federal Government to prioritize decisive action over declarations: “Calling for a state of emergency won’t solve the problem. What we need is coordinated support and real resources to finish what we’ve started.”
