Ebele Iyiegbu, wife of popular businessman Obi Cubana, has subtly addressed the backlash her husband has faced over a recent next-of-kin controversy that has stirred heated debates online.
The issue began when Obi’s adopted son, Chidi, posted a TikTok video with the caption, “Nothing do my shoulder, I just realise say I be next of kin.” In response, Obi Cubana shared a photo of his biological son, Alex, on Instagram, captioning it: “Ancient and modern, eyes on the ball. @dtwalx aka next of kin.”
While Cubana’s post appeared to clarify his stance, it drew criticism from some social media users—including public commentator Solomon Buchi—who felt the response lacked emotional sensitivity. Critics argued that Obi should have handled the matter privately rather than making a public correction that could be seen as dismissive of Chidi.
In what many interpreted as a response to the growing online noise, Ebele took to Instagram with a pointed message:
“Only on social media do you encounter people sharing your life story as if they know you personally.
Only here will you learn about your own history from strangers who’ve never even met you.
And only on social media will you see people blaming wives and mothers because of their own misguided thoughts and evil ideas… because that’s who they are.”
She wrapped up her post by redirecting attention to a more joyful occasion: the celebration of her husband’s milestone birthday.
“Anyways, I’m still soaking in the celebration of the #50for50 birthday party for Okpataozueora!
Like I said before, the entire month of April is dedicated to you, babe.”
