Nigerian art student, Chancellor Ahaghotu, has achieved a remarkable feat by breaking a decade-old record for the longest painting marathon, completing 100 consecutive hours of painting. Guinness World Records announced Ahaghotu’s accomplishment on its social media platforms and website.

A sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, Ahaghotu surpassed the previous record of 60 hours set by Roland Palmaerts (Belgium/Canada) in 2013. His record-breaking attempt involved creating 106 pieces over four days, depicting various subjects such as celebrities, food items, plants, animals, and more.

Before starting the record attempt, Ahaghotu expressed his goal of boosting recognition as an artist on both a local and global scale. He explained that each painting represented different moods and emotions he experienced during the marathon.

According to Guinness World Records, Ahaghotu was allowed a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity, during which he could use the bathroom, eat, or sleep. He battled fatigue around the 88-hour mark but remained committed to reaching the 100-hour target.

Initially planning to create one painting per hour, Ahaghotu had prepared 100 canvases with sketches before the attempt. However, he completed them ahead of schedule and went on to produce impromptu still lifes, concluding with a painting of an exhausted person.

The accomplishment not only brings a sense of personal achievement to Ahaghotu but also contributes to building his career as a recognized artist. He expressed joy and satisfaction at completing the 100 hours, describing it as a new and meaningful experience in his artistic journey.
