A woman, identified as Favour Nweke, has been apprehended and publicly presented by the Rivers State Police Command on allegations of causing severe harm to her husband’s body through the use of scalding hot oil.

The incident took place in Obite village within the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area. Alongside other individuals suspected of criminal activities, Ms. Nweke was paraded at the command’s headquarters located on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi, addressed the media on this matter.

In his statement to the press, Commissioner Nwonyi emphasized that the law would relentlessly pursue individuals, no matter how far they may attempt to flee from justice.

“The suspect utilized boiling groundnut oil against her husband, presumably due to a domestic dispute. It’s crucial to recognize that evading the law is a futile endeavor.

I can confirm that the suspect has been apprehended and is currently in our custody. The judicial process will ensure appropriate measures are taken because one’s actions have consequences,” stated Commissioner Nwonyi.

Mrs. Nweke, however, expressed deep regret for her actions, acknowledging that she and her husband had been engaged in an altercation when she accidentally spilled scalding oil on his body.

She emphasized that, had she foreseen the dire consequences, she would never have resorted to such an act.

Her husband, Ekelediri Nwokekoro, a resident of Okehi in Etche Local Government Area of the state, now bears painful blisters but managed to muster a few words, saying, “This is the challenge I am currently facing; it was an unforeseen accident, and I had no idea it would unfold in this manner.”
