The Lagos State High Court, situated at the Tafawa Balewa Square annex in Igbosere, Lagos Island, has delivered a verdict of guilty and sentenced a suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) named Drambi Vandi to death by hanging. This conviction stems from his involvement in the murder of Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem, a Lagos-based lawyer.

Justice Ibironke Harrison presided over the case and asserted that the prosecution, led by the Lagos State Government, had successfully established the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

In the words of Justice Ibironke Harrison, “The court finds the defendant guilty of one count of murder and hereby sentences you to be hanged by the neck until you are deceased.”

The legal proceedings against Vandi were initiated on January 16 when the Lagos State Government brought him before the court for the fatal shooting of the 41-year-old pregnant lawyer at the Ajah underbridge checkpoint on December 25, 2022. The convict was charged with a single count of murder, as stipulated in Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
