At least three people, including a child, have been killed in a fresh Russian missile attack near Kyiv, Ukrainian officials say, as renewed strikes intensify pressure on communities around the Ukrainian capital.
The latest attack came just hours after another Russian strike damaged Chornomorets Stadium, one of Ukraine’s largest sports facilities, shortly before a scheduled top-flight football match.
Overnight, explosions were reported across areas surrounding Kyiv as air raid warnings were activated. In the village of Pukhivka, two adults and a child were killed, while at least three other people sustained injuries, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the regional military administration.
The attack also caused damage to residential properties and vehicles. A non-residential building was reportedly set ablaze after debris fell in the area. Emergency response teams were sent to the affected locations to extinguish fires, search damaged sites and assess the extent of the destruction.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service published images showing damaged buildings and garages in the aftermath of the strikes. Officials said casualty figures were still being verified as emergency operations continued.
Russian authorities, meanwhile, said the strikes were aimed at a facility connected to the production of Ukrainian military equipment.
The latest barrage follows another large-scale Russian missile attack on Kyiv earlier in the week. Ukrainian officials said that assault killed at least 21 people and damaged dozens of homes.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has continued to appeal to international allies for additional air-defence systems. He has argued that strengthening Ukraine’s ability to intercept incoming missiles and drones is essential to protecting civilians and reducing casualties.
At the same time, Ukraine has maintained its own long-range attacks against targets inside Russia, including energy and oil infrastructure. The continued exchange of strikes comes as diplomatic efforts to end the war remain stalled, with both sides showing little sign of easing their military campaigns.
