Popular Supermarket Gutted by Fire in Lagos

A fire broke out in the early hours of the morning at a well-known supermarket in the Akowonjo area of Lagos State, causing significant damage to part of the building.

The incident occurred at the store located near Jimoh Bus Stop in the Egbeda-Akowonjo axis. Emergency responders from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived promptly and successfully brought the blaze under control before it could spread to other parts of the premises.

According to the Controller of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, the fire was confined to the second floor of the commercial building, where the supermarket’s electronics section is located.

She explained that firefighters immediately deployed equipment and carried out coordinated operations to contain the flames, protect nearby sections of the building, and ensure the safety of lives, property, and the surrounding environment.

Adeseye added that the fire has been completely extinguished, while recovery and mop-up operations are ongoing.

Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have originated from a solar inverter system used as an alternative power source. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were recorded during the incident.

Authorities are expected to continue investigations to determine the exact cause of the fire.
