Obi Opens Up on Meeting with Swiss Envoy, Shares Key Takeaways

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has called for deeper cooperation between Nigeria and Switzerland following his meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Patrick Egloff.

Obi, who previously served as Governor of Anambra State, shared details of the meeting on X on Wednesday, July 22, describing the engagement as productive and focused on areas vital to Nigeria’s development.

The former governor said discussions centred on the country’s development priorities, with particular attention given to education, healthcare delivery and poverty reduction as key areas requiring sustained investment.

He also praised Switzerland’s contributions to Nigeria, especially its humanitarian and development efforts in the North-East region, noting that the support has played an important role in addressing critical challenges.

“I expressed my gratitude for the invaluable contributions of the Swiss Confederation to Nigeria’s development, especially its support for critical economic, cultural, humanitarian, and peace-building initiatives, particularly in the North-East,” Obi said.

According to him, stronger partnerships based on common values and a shared commitment to improving the lives of citizens are necessary for Nigeria’s progress.

“Building stronger partnerships founded on shared values and a commitment to human development remains essential to creating a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria,” he added.

The meeting comes as Nigeria continues to seek stronger international collaborations aimed at improving economic growth, social development and humanitarian support across the country.
