20-year-old Nigerian man stabbed to death in Madrid; Moroccan suspect arrested

A 20-year-old Nigerian man was stabbed to death in a public park in Madrid, Spain, allegedly by a Moroccan national.

The incident occurred at about 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The victim was reportedly stabbed twice in the chest at Paraíso Park in the San Blas district.

According to witnesses, an argument broke out between the victim and the suspect before the attacker pulled out a knife and assaulted the young man.

The victim has been identified only by his initials, D.O. The suspect, a 38-year-old Moroccan man, was arrested a few streets away from the scene.

Footage from the scene shows emergency responders attempting to save the victim’s life.

Madrid Emergencies said the attack took place at the park on Alberique Street. National Police officers were first to arrive and began CPR on the victim, who was bleeding heavily.

Paramedics from Samur-Protección Civil arrived shortly after and continued resuscitation efforts. After about 30 minutes, they confirmed that the victim had died.

Eyewitnesses reportedly identified the suspect “without a doubt” and described him as a homeless individual and drug user.

The suspect fled on foot after the stabbing but was located about an hour later on Emilio Ferrari Street. Although he was reportedly covered in blood, the weapon used in the attack was not found on him.

Investigators believe the incident may have been linked to a dispute over narcotics, according to El País.

Forensic teams are currently working at the scene.

El País also reports that the area has seen several violent incidents in recent years and is known to be frequented by individuals with drug dependency issues.
