Using a cutlass to steal constitutes armed robbery under the law — DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi warns

Former Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has warned that using a cutlass to steal is legally classified as armed robbery.

In a post shared on Monday, April 20, 2026, Adejobi explained that a cutlass is considered an offensive weapon.

“This is not a gun, but an offensive weapon which can be regarded as an arm. Under the law, if you use a cutlass or any other sharp or dangerous object to forcefully take something from another person, it is a case of armed robbery. So, let’s be guided. Ire o,” he wrote.
