The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) say they have destroyed a private aircraft linked to the late Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, while reports claim his successor and son, Mojtaba Khamenei, is in Moscow receiving treatment for serious injuries.

In a statement posted on X on Monday, the IDF said the aircraft was targeted at Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran. According to the Israeli military, the plane was used by Khamenei and other senior officials to “advance military purchases and manage communications with Axis countries through domestic and international flights.”

“The destruction of this plane damages the Iranian regime’s leadership coordination capabilities with the Axis countries, the process of strengthening military capabilities, and the regime’s ability to rebuild,” the statement added.

Separate reports claim that Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, is currently in Moscow receiving treatment for injuries allegedly sustained during a joint U.S.–Israeli airstrike.

Mojtaba reportedly succeeded his father following the elder Khamenei’s assassination on February 28, although several reports claim he has since been in a coma.

According to Kuwaiti newspaper Al‑Jarida, his injuries required him to be secretly flown to Russia for surgery that was “personally offered” by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The operation to move the new Ayatollah out of Iran was reportedly carried out under tight secrecy, with Mojtaba allegedly transported aboard a Russian military aircraft. He was then taken to one of Putin’s presidential residences, where he reportedly underwent successful surgery.

The report remains unconfirmed, but Al-Jarida said its information came from a “high-ranking source close to the new Iranian Supreme Leader.”

The source also claimed Mojtaba was injured early during America’s Operation Epic Fury, and that his wounds could not be treated in Iran while the country remains under constant military pressure from the United States and Israel.

It is unclear whether Mojtaba was wounded in the same airstrikes that killed his 86-year-old father.

Another source previously told The Sun, via messages sent to an exiled dissident in London, that the heir is in “very serious” condition and had been treated at Sina University Hospital in Mashhad.

“One or two of his legs have been cut off. His liver or stomach has also ruptured. He is apparently in a coma as well,” the source alleged.

The unnamed source added that the new Supreme Leader was under the care of Mohammad Reza Zafarghandi, Iran’s Minister of Health and a leading trauma surgeon.

Meanwhile, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Friday that American officials believe Mojtaba Khamenei has indeed been wounded.

“We know the new so-called, not-so-supreme leader is wounded and likely disfigured,” Hegseth said during a press conference.
