The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the mysterious deaths of a gospel singer, Matthew Ogundele, and three of his crew members, who were found dead inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, Lagos State.
The deceased were identified as Matthew Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, Itunu Ogundele, and a blogger popularly known as Matthew Awosanya, also called JoesTv. Their bodies were discovered on Wednesday, February 4.
According to reports, the victims had taken part in a three-day birthday praise event organised by fellow gospel singer, Olanireti Akinbola. After performing on the second day of the event on Tuesday, February 3, they reportedly stayed back at the studio located within the HFP Shopping Complex.
The tragic discovery was made by the studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola, who is also the husband of the celebrant. He was said to have returned to the studio around 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday and found the door locked from the inside.
Speaking on the incident, the Lagos State Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the matter was reported to the police by Akintayo. She explained that he had left the artistes at the studio on Tuesday night after buying food for them as they prepared for an upcoming music concert.
On his return the next morning, calls for assistance were made, and the door was eventually forced open, revealing the lifeless bodies of the four individuals.
Police detectives visited the scene, documented the area, and carried out a preliminary examination. According to the spokesperson, no signs of violence or external injuries were observed on the bodies.
The corpses have since been evacuated, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death.
