The United States Embassy in Abuja has issued a stern warning to Nigerians regarding visa fraud, emphasizing that falsifying information or submitting fraudulent documents can lead to a permanent visa ban.
In a post shared on X on Monday, the embassy stated that providing false information or documents during a visa application could permanently bar individuals from entering the United States. Such violations, the embassy noted, fall under U.S. immigration law and may render an applicant permanently ineligible to travel to the country.
The warning coincided with a meeting between U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria Richard Mills and Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, to discuss areas of bilateral cooperation.
The embassy highlighted its commitment to continued collaboration with Nigeria on issues of shared interest. The discussion also comes amid heightened diplomatic attention on Nigeria’s internal security challenges, particularly in the North and Middle Belt regions, where some U.S. lawmakers have expressed concerns over community attacks and potential violations of religious freedom.
