Two members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) have been arrested by Nigerian military troops for allegedly transporting arms and military uniforms intended for terrorists in Borno State.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday, July 17, while providing updates on ongoing military operations across the country.

According to Kangye, the suspects — identified as Isah Abdullahi and Abdullahi Mohammed — were apprehended in the Liya area of Biu Local Government Area, Borno State. They were caught taking delivery of a waybill from a truck driver, following actionable intelligence earlier received by security forces.

“Two members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, identified as Isah Abdullahi and Abdullahi Mohammed, were arrested in Liya, Biu LGA of Borno State while receiving a waybill from a truck driver. The delivery matched prior intelligence regarding a suspicious consignment,” he stated.

Items recovered from the suspects included 13 pairs of military uniforms and several high-voltage batteries, among other materials.

In a related development, Kangye also confirmed the arrest of a 65-year-old logistics supplier for terrorists, identified as Shaibu Bulama. He was apprehended at Damasak Motor Park in Yobe State on July 13, 2025.

“Some quantities of arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspect. Troops also safely detonated several improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and recovered the sum of ₦17,150,” Kangye added.

He further revealed that sustained military operations in the North-East have continued to yield positive results. On July 14, 2025, a group of 16 family members of terrorists — including four adult women and 12 children — surrendered to troops in Bama Local Government Area.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the group surrendered from Bakura Jega village,” he said.
