Vice-President Kashim Shettima has urged the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) to broaden its intervention efforts in the North-East region by encompassing additional road projects, irrespective of their current status.

Senator Shettima issued this call on Saturday while launching the distribution of N15 billion worth of food items to the governors of the region and inaugurating a 22 km road construction project along Mafa Road in Maiduguri, Borno State.

This significant event organized by the NEDC coincided with the inaugural meeting of the North-East Governors Forum in 2023, hosted at the Government House in Maiduguri.

In the presence of the esteemed host governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, and joined by all the regional governors, the Vice President participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for a 22.5 km road construction project. This vital road will connect numerous communities within the Jere Local Government Area (LGA) and extend into certain areas of Mafa LGA, fostering improved connectivity and accessibility for the residents.

VP Shettima, along with other distinguished guests, presided over the gathering in the multipurpose hall of the Government House, where the North-East governors convened for their quarterly meeting.

The welcome address at NEDC was delivered by Mr. Mohammed Goni Alkali, the Managing Director. Following that, Vice President Shettima shared his remarks.

Subsequently, the Vice President departed from Maiduguri for Abuja, from where he was slated to commence his visit to Kebbi State to initiate the construction of 1,000 houses spanning across the North-West and North Central regions.
