The Bishop of Diocese of Ife, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Olubunmi Akinlade, has appealed to the Osun State Government to return mission schools in the state to churches to restore their lost glory.
The cleric’s plea was informed by the decrepit state of some of the mission schools.
He said, “We ask the government to return our schools to us for proper management. Some of them are in a deplorable state like St. Philips Primary School beside our Cathedral at Ayetoro.”
The bishop said this during his Presidential Charge on Saturday at the First Session of the eleventh Synod of the diocese held at St. Philip Anglican Church, Aiyetoro, Ile-Ife, Osun State, themed: “Godly parenting in a cosmopolitan world.”
The cleric enjoined Nigerians to get vaccinated against the dreaded pandemic and keep safe.
He also praised the Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, and his team for their proactiveness in managing the Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
He said, “The effect of the third wave caused by the Delta variant of the COVID-19 pandemic is already gaining momentum in our country and all over the world. The number of reported cases is rising daily, as well as the number of deaths. Please get the vaccine whenever it is available if you have not. This is the safest way to protect yourself against the devastating effect of the pandemic.”
He added, “On the issue of vaccination, I’m yet to read where the scriptures say we should not get vaccinated. As long as the scriptures do not go against vaccination when any man speaks on that issue, he is speaking his mind. I cannot judge a minister of God for speaking his mind on the issue.
“From time immemorial, different kinds of pestilence have become global epidemics and the consistent way the world has been attacking these epidemics is through vaccination. People have had chickenpox, smallpox, measles and others. These diseases have been in existence before we were born and the world has developed vaccines to counter them. That is why today when a child is born, there are compulsory vaccinations that the child must take over a period of time to fight killer diseases.”
Meanwhile, the Bishop, Diocese of Ijesa North Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Dr. Isaac Oluyamo, has advised the President, Maj. Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (retd.), to leave the issue of Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho, for monarchs in the South West region to handle.
Oluyamo made the disclosure in his sermon at an event marking the 92nd birthday anniversary of Prof. Theophilus Olowokure and Rt. Reverend Jacob Olowokure, held in Ijebu Jesa, during which a school donated by Theophilus was also inaugurated.
Oluyamo, who called on the Federal Government to work hard and put an end to the activities of Boko Haram insurgents, said the government should provide for the educational needs of the less privileged children.
A copy of the sermon delivered by Oluyamo at the event, further read in part, “The government of President Buhari should release Sunday Igboho to Yoruba Obas, to resolve whatever issues with understanding.
“We appreciate and support the government of Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, the Executive Governor of Ondo State, for the ban on open grazing in Ondo State and we also appeal to the Osun State government to release mission Slschools back to any religious denomination that wants them back.”
