Growing up, I envisioned so many beautiful things for my life. One of my biggest dreams was to become successful, independent, and make my parents proud.
But before I clocked 18, I never really stopped to ask myself important questions like: Who am I? What do I really want? What kind of future do I want to build?
As I look back now, I realize that was one of the mistakes I made.
I made choices without fully understanding myself or having a clear plan for my future. I even ended up studying a course at university that I didn’t really want. It wasn’t necessarily a bad decision, but it wasn’t what I truly wanted for myself.
As I grew older, I began to understand myself better. I discovered that I had a passion for so many different things, and I started thinking seriously about what I wanted to achieve.
At 28, I began gradually working towards some of the dreams I had once put aside. And guess what? By the time I clocked 30, I had started making my own money and becoming more financially independent.
Sometimes I wonder where I would have been if I had started planning and understanding myself much earlier. Maybe I would have achieved some of those goals in my early 20s.
But I have no regrets. Every stage taught me something.
So, to every young girl who is 18 or above, start paying attention to your life.
You don’t need to have everything figured out immediately, but you should start asking yourself important questions.
What do I love?
What are my strengths?
What kind of woman do I want to become?
What career or business interests me?
What goals do I want to achieve?
What steps can I start taking now?
Most importantly, understand yourself and embrace who you are.
Don’t lose yourself just because you want to fit into someone else’s expectations. Don’t allow relationships, friendships, social media, or pressure from people to make you forget your goals.
Build yourself. Learn new skills. Make good decisions. Take your education seriously. Learn how to manage money. Discover your talents and don’t be afraid to start small.
Your 18+ years are not about having a perfect life. They are about laying the foundation for the woman you want to become.
The earlier you understand yourself and start working towards your goals, the earlier you give yourself a chance to build the future you dream about.
And if you feel like you started late, don’t beat yourself up.
Your journey is still your journey. Start from where you are, learn from your past, and keep moving forward.
