Fear Grips Zamfara Community as Bandits Kill Security Operatives, Kidnap Many

A soldier and a police officer have been killed, while dozens of residents were reportedly abducted after armed bandits launched an attack on Kasuwar Daji District in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Residents said the attackers stormed the community around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, shooting sporadically as they moved from house to house. The assailants were reportedly searching for specific individuals whose names and locations were said to have been identified before the operation.

A resident, Inuwa Giranto, said the attackers overpowered security personnel despite attempts by soldiers, police officers, and local vigilantes to repel the invasion.

According to him, the commander of the nearby military base called for additional support as the bandits withdrew into a surrounding forest with an unknown number of abducted residents.

“It was like the end of the world. Women and children were screaming for help while livestock scattered in panic. The whole community was thrown into confusion,” Giranto said.

Residents claimed that more than 70 people were taken away during the attack, although security agencies have not yet confirmed the exact number of victims.

The incident adds to a growing wave of insecurity in Kaura Namoda, which has experienced several attacks in recent days.

Last week, bandits reportedly invaded the home of the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr Aminu Yusuf, killing his security guard and abducting several residents in different parts of the town.

The rector, his family members, and other victims were later rescued by troops.
