Tems Breaks Records as First Female African Artist With a Diamond-Certified Single in the US

Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in her music career after becoming the first female African artist to earn a Diamond-certified single in the United States.

The achievement comes through her hit collaboration “Wait For U” with American rapper Future, featuring Canadian superstar Drake. The song has officially surpassed 10 million certified units in the US, earning the prestigious Diamond status from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

According to data shared by global music monitoring platform Chart Data, “Wait For U” has exceeded the required threshold, recording over 11 million units in the American music market.

“US Certifications (@RIAA): Future (@1future) Feat. @Drake & @temsbaby, WAIT FOR U 11x Platinum (11,000,000),” Chart Data announced through its official X handle.

Tems’ latest accomplishment further cements her position as one of Africa’s most influential contemporary artists. The singer, known for her unique vocals and global appeal, continues to break barriers and achieve historic feats on the international music scene.

Her Diamond certification marks another major milestone in the growing recognition of African artists in the global entertainment industry.
