APC Slams Makinde Over Oyo Insecurity, Demands Resignation

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized Governor Seyi Makinde over his recent comments regarding the security situation in the state, accusing him of failing to take responsibility for the protection of residents.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, described the governor’s remarks as a misrepresentation of the constitutional role of state governors in maintaining security and public order.

Sadare dismissed Makinde’s claim that his ability to tackle insecurity is limited because security agencies are under the control of the Federal Government. According to the APC spokesman, the governor’s comments reflected a lack of leadership and an unwillingness to take responsibility for the security challenges facing the state.

The opposition party further argued that Governor Makinde should be held accountable for the growing concerns over insecurity and urged him to step aside from office. The APC suggested that the deputy governor should be allowed to complete the remaining one year of the administration’s tenure.

The statement also warned voters against supporting leaders who, in the party’s view, fail to demonstrate effective leadership during critical moments.

The APC’s reaction follows comments made by Governor Makinde on Saturday in Ibadan while accepting his nomination as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). During his speech, the governor expressed concern over the abduction of schoolchildren and other residents by bandits, stating that he lacked full control over security agencies and therefore had limited powers to directly address such incidents.
