Kwara Governor Calls for Increase of Minimum Wage to N100,000

The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to increase Nigeria’s minimum wage from N70,000 to N100,000.

Speaking in Lagos on Friday, May 29, during a visit by members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, to President Tinubu’s residence, AbdulRazaq noted that several states have already begun paying workers a minimum wage of N100,000.

“On the issue of the minimum wage, most states are paying almost N100,000 today, and I urge Your Excellency to initiate discussions on increasing the national minimum wage to at least N100,000. We know we will continue to receive the usual support from you as we move ahead with its implementation,” he said.

President Tinubu signed the new National Minimum Wage Bill into law in July 2024, increasing the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.
