Police arrest father and son, recover four firearms in Ogun State

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested five suspects, including a father and his son, and recovered four firearms in a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations across the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, May 29, 2026.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), one of the suspects, Waliu Adegbola, was initially arrested over the theft of a Tecno Android phone valued at ₦180,000 from a residential apartment. Further investigation led to the arrest of his 23-year-old son, Fatai Adegbola, and the recovery of a locally made pistol and a dane gun.

In the statement, the Command said:

“The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations across different divisions of the State, resulting in the arrest of a father and son among five (5) suspects, and the recovery of four (4) firearms comprising one (1) locally made pistol, one (1) locally fabricated pistol, and two (2) dane guns, as well as one (1) live cartridge and a stolen Tecno Android phone valued at ₦180,000.”

It explained that operatives of the Afon Division arrested Fatai Adegbola and his father, Waliu Adegbola, following a report received on 22/05/2026 at about 19:30hrs. Waliu was alleged to have stolen the phone on 08/05/2026. Acting on credible intelligence, officers tracked and recovered the stolen device.

A subsequent search of the suspects’ residence, conducted under a duly obtained warrant, led to the discovery of a locally made pistol and a dane gun allegedly concealed within the premises. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue into their full involvement and possible accomplices.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Ilisan Remo Division recovered a locally fabricated pistol with one live cartridge during a routine patrol at the Ilisan Remo Roundabout on 27/05/2026 at about 07:30hrs. The item was found abandoned and has been secured as exhibit while efforts continue to trace its origin and ownership.

Similarly, operatives of the Ode Remo Division arrested Inioluwa Adesanya, 25, in connection with the theft of a dane gun belonging to a resident of Ode Remo. Investigation revealed that the suspect gained access to the complainant’s residence under the guise of a carpenter’s assistant engaged for renovation work, before stealing the firearm.

The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and admitted affiliation with the Aye confraternity, adding that the weapon was modified for concealment purposes. The recovered dane gun has been secured as evidence, while the suspect is in custody pending transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and prosecution.

All cases have been transferred to the SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Police Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations against violent crime, cultism, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms across the state.
