Troops of the 152 Task Force Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI have neutralised a suspected JAS/ISWAP spy during a night patrol along the Banki border perimeter fence in Borno State.
The incident occurred when troops deployed at the A17 axis observed suspicious movement from the Cameroonian border area towards Banki town.
According to security sources, the suspect was allegedly attempting to scale the perimeter fence to monitor troop activities in the area.
“The individual was observed jumping the border fence from the Cameroonian axis towards Banki town in what appeared to be an attempt to gather intelligence on troop movements,” the sources said.
The troops reportedly engaged the suspect, who was neutralised during the operation.
The sources added that troops subsequently carried out a sweeping operation in the area in search of other suspected terrorists, but no further contact was made.
Security officials said monitoring and surveillance operations have been intensified along the border corridor to prevent infiltration and espionage activities by terrorist elements.
They further noted that the overall security situation across the theatre remains calm but unpredictable, while troop morale and operational effectiveness remain satisfactory.
