The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Bayegun Nathaniel, for the alleged abduction and killing of a 16-year-old girl in Ojigo, Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the girl, Adegbaaju Florence, was abducted last month in the Ogijo area. Following a report, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command launched an intelligence-led investigation, leading to the arrest of the suspect on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
The spokesperson for the Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the suspect was apprehended after sustained intelligence operations.
Babaseyi added that the suspect confessed to the crime, claiming he acted alone.
According to him, the suspect also disclosed that a ransom of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000) was received.
“Investigation indicates that the victim was later killed, and her body disposed of in a river within the Ogijo area,” Babaseyi said. “Efforts are currently ongoing to locate and recover the remains for forensic examination, while further investigative steps continue to ensure a thorough and conclusive process.”
He also quoted the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, as expressing deep sympathy to the family of the deceased and assuring that justice would be served. The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice.
In a separate development, the Command recovered a single-barrel long gun and six live cartridges after a suspect fled during a stop-and-search operation.
According to Babaseyi, the incident occurred when an unidentified man riding an unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle noticed operatives and attempted to flee.
“In an attempt to evade arrest, the suspect reportedly threw a single-barrel long gun along with six live cartridges into a nearby bush before escaping on the motorcycle,” he said.
The exhibits were recovered and secured at the Command armoury.
He added that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspect for investigation and prosecution.
CP Ojajuni commended the vigilance of the operatives and reaffirmed the Command’s stance against illegal possession of firearms, assuring that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend suspects and curb criminal activities in the state.
