An 83-year-old man, Pa John Ofiel, and a 78-year-old, Ogunjobi Samuel, are among suspects arrested in an ongoing nationwide crackdown on illicit drug trafficking and distribution by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
Pa Ofiel was arrested on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, during a raid at Samek by Powerline area of Aba, Abia State, following credible intelligence that he was involved in dealing in illicit substances. During the operation, NDLEA officers recovered 700 grams of skunk, a strain of cannabis, packaged in retail sachets.
The octogenarian reportedly told investigators that he had previously worked as a professional shoemaker before venturing into the illegal drug trade.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives in Ekiti State arrested 78-year-old Ogunjobi Samuel on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at his residence on H22 Owode Street, Ilupeju-Ekiti, for alleged drug peddling. A total of 350 grams of skunk were recovered from him at the time of arrest.
