Man Arraigned for Allegedly Procuring Abortion for 16-Year-Old Girl in Ondo

A 24-year-old tiller, Micheal Ogedengbe, was on Thursday, February 19, arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure over alleged conspiracy and the procurement of abortion for a teenage girl.

The defendant was docked on two counts bordering on conspiracy and the unlawful administration of drugs to procure an abortion.

According to the charge, Ogedengbe and others now at large allegedly conspired on February 1, 2026, at Oka Akoko in the Ondo State Magisterial District, to commit an offence, to wit: procuring an abortion.

The offence is said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code.

In Count II, the defendant was alleged to have, sometime in January 2023, unlawfully administered drugs to one Marvellous Orogbemi, a 16-year-old girl, with intent to procure an abortion.

The offence is also said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 228 of the same law.

The defence counsel, G.O. Omoedu, urged the court to admit his client to bail on liberal terms, assuring the court that the defendant would not jump bail.

In his ruling, Magistrate R.I. Adelakin granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N1 million with two sureties.
