Nigerian music has once again taken centre stage globally, with five Nigerian artists earning nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards.
The 68th Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Nigerian acts are set to compete in major categories, further underscoring the country’s growing influence on the global music scene.
Leading the Nigerian contingent is Burna Boy, who secured two nominations. He is recognised in the Best African Music Performance category for his song “Love” and also nominated for Best Global Music Album with No Sign of Weakness, reinforcing his status as one of Africa’s most consistent Grammy contenders.
Davido also makes a return to the Grammy stage with “With You” featuring Omah Lay, earning a nomination in the Best African Music Performance category.
Ayra Starr continues her impressive run with a nomination for “Gimme Dat”, her collaboration with Wizkid, also in the Best African Music Performance category. Wizkid, through the same track, adds another Grammy nod to his already illustrious career.
Omah Lay completes the list of nominees through his feature on Davido’s “With You”, marking another significant milestone in his rising career.
In a historic highlight, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti will be honoured with a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He becomes the first African artist to receive this prestigious recognition. The award will be presented at the Special Merit Awards Ceremony on Saturday, January 31, 2026, alongside legendary figures such as Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Cher, and Paul Simon.
