Pop star Katy Perry has added her voice to the growing list of celebrities speaking out against the actions of the U.S. immigration enforcement agency, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), amid renewed national outrage following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.

The 41-year-old singer took to Instagram this week to urge her more than 200 million followers to “turn anger into ACTION,” encouraging Americans to go beyond expressing frustration online and take concrete steps to influence lawmakers.

In her post, Perry shared a series of slides with clear instructions on how her followers can contact their U.S. senators. She noted that lawmakers have a deadline of January 30 to block an additional $10 billion in funding for ICE, which would be on top of the roughly $75 billion already approved for homeland security and immigration enforcement.

Alongside the call to action, she provided a suggested call script for reaching senators and urged her audience to push for a filibuster of the upcoming appropriations bill that would include the funding. Perry also condemned reports of recent arrests, assaults, and deadly force involving ICE and other federal immigration agents.

Although comments were disabled on her Instagram post, it quickly amassed significant engagement and shares across social platforms, highlighting how widely the issue has resonated.

Perry’s stance comes as outrage continues to grow following the deaths of two U.S. citizens—Alex Pretti and Renee Good—who were killed during federal immigration enforcement operations in Minneapolis earlier this month. Celebrities including actor Pedro Pascal and singer Billie Eilish have also condemned the fatal shootings and called for accountability and policy change.

The incident involving Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, has particularly intensified criticism of ICE and U.S. Border Patrol tactics. Videos and eyewitness accounts have raised questions about the circumstances of his death and leadership decisions within the Department of Homeland Security, prompting protests and political debate nationwide.

As attention continues to focus on immigration enforcement and federal funding decisions, public figures like Katy Perry are calling on everyday Americans to engage directly with their representatives and influence policy—arguing that collective civic action is needed to address what they describe as systemic issues within U.S. immigration operations.
