A new batch of Jeffrey Epstein documents released on Tuesday contains multiple references to United States President Donald Trump, including records of flights he took on the late financier’s private jet.
According to an email from a New York prosecutor included in the documents, Trump flew on Epstein’s private jet “many more times than previously reported.” The email, dated January 7, 2020, states that flight records show Trump took eight trips on Epstein’s plane during the 1990s. On at least four of these flights, Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell was also present.
Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for helping Epstein sexually abuse underage girls.
In 2024, Trump denied any wrongdoing on social media, claiming he “was never on Epstein’s plane, or at his ‘stupid’ island.” The prosecutor’s email does not allege that Trump committed any crime.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) released a statement on Tuesday, noting that some of the documents contained “untrue and sensationalist claims” about Trump. The DOJ added that the documents had been submitted to the FBI after the 2020 presidential election but did not provide further details.
“To be clear: the claims are unfounded and false, and if they had any credibility, they certainly would have been weaponized against President Trump already,” the DOJ said in a social media post.
The Trump administration had previously resisted the release of Epstein-related documents, and recent releases have included heavy redactions.
The latest release comprises roughly 8,000 files, including video and audio recordings, and 30,000 pages of documents. The materials reportedly note that on two flights, the passengers included women who could have been potential witnesses in Maxwell’s case. On another flight, the only passengers were Trump, Epstein, and a 20-year-old woman whose name was redacted.
Some videos reportedly show the interior of the federal detention center where Epstein died in 2019. His death was ruled a suicide, though speculation about the circumstances continues.
Trump has downplayed the significance of the documents, stating on Monday that they are being used by political rivals to “deflect against the tremendous success” of his administration.
